Liam's Irish Traditional Music - A Constitutional Dilemma

BACK

The Ulster Volunteers & The Irish Volunteer Force
Ulster responded to the Home Rule threat by recruiting and training the Ulster Volunteers.  Two hundred thousand Protestants signed a covenant against Home Rule.  Many used their own blood.  In some households in Ulster today, the covenants are kept on display to preserve the memory of this period in the history of Protestants. The Catholic response was to form the Irish Volunteer Force, and train a new group of Irish nationalists.  Both sides drilled troops, marched and took to "gun running".
