The Iron Fist of Cromwell's England
The 1641 the crisis in Ireland came at a time of great unrest in England Charles the 1st  and parliament clashed over the way in which royal power could be used and civil war broke out. In 1649 Charles 1 was executed, and the Stuart monarchy, overthrown. European people were horrified. Fear spread through English Protestants that royalist supporters would attempt to invade England, using Ireland as a base. The Irish Parliament resisted Republicanism and supported the monarchy. Oliver Cromwell was in, charge of the army, and the leading force in the Republicans government. He was a dedicated anti catholism and his foreign policy was particularly aimed against Spain and its imperial policy in the west.
