HISTORY INDEX
There are some episodes
in the history of Ireland which have lived on in the memory of groups of
people, continuing to affect the ways they feel and think. Two such
episodes for Protestants are the The Siege of Derry and The Battle of
Boyne. The potato blight, which caused wide scale famine from 1845 to
1849, left a legacy of bitterness and hatred in catholic minds. As a
result of the famine, the political events of the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries were focused on the issues of land and independence from British rule |
